Irene (Sohara) Chmielewski, age 77, of the Sibley Section of Old Forge, died Sunday morning in the VNA Hospice at the Moses Taylor Hospital. She was the widow of Joseph J. Chmielewski who died April 28, 2002.
Born on January 4, 1929 in Old Forge she was the daughter of the late Andrew and Helen Sohara. She was a graduate of Old Forge High School. Before her retirement , she was employed by Best Maid Apparel of Old Forge and was a member of St. Michael’s Roman Catholic Church, Old Forge. She was also a member of I.L.G.W.U. Retirees
She is also survived by her
step-daughter, Diane Callis of Newton-Ransom, a half brother Edward Borowsky, Monoca, Pa. and a sister-in-law, Mary Sohara, Old Forge. Several nephews and nieces including, Dave and Lisa Sohara and Ron and Maryann Colbert, all of Old Forge and Joseph Sohara, Bethlehem, Pa. Several step-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a brother Joseph Sohara who died in 1988.
The funeral will be Wednesday with a Mass of the Christian Burial at 9:00 A.M. in St. Michael’s Roman Catholic Church, Vine Street in Old Forge to be celebrated by the Rev. Joseph M. Brozena, Pastor.Interment will follow in Holy Cross Cemetery in Old Forge.
