Eleanor R. Gatto of Old Forge passed away Monday evening at Hospice Community Care in Dunmore. A life-long Old Forge resident, Eleanor was the daughter of the late Patrick and Rose Bamonte Gatto and graduated Old Forge High School before earning her degree from the former Lackawanna Business College. Eleanor spent her entire working career as a legal secretary/office manager for the firm of Needle, Needle, and Goldenziel. Of Protestant faith, she was a devoted member of the Moosic Assembly of God Church.
Affectionately known as “Tootsie” to her family and close friends, she enjoyed traveling and in later years, those travels mostly included visits to her family in the tri-state area. She shared her homemade cookies and pizzelles at every birthday or family event and took great pride in all of the accomplishments of her nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews. Before her illness, Tootsie also hosted most holiday dinners for her family which frequently featured her homemade pasta. Her strong faith and positive attitude are an inspiration to her entire family and all who knew her.
She is survived by her beloved brother, Thomas Gatto, with whom she resided; two sisters-in-law, Nancy Parrick of Duryea and Sonja Posdon of Taylor; numerous nieces, nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews. Her brothers, John, James and Frank Gatto; and sisters, Marcelline Gatto and Marie Ceccacci preceded her in death.
Funeral services are scheduled for Saturday at 10:00AM in the Moosic Assembly of God Church, 477 3rd Street in Moosic, to be conducted by Rev. David O’Brien, Pastor.
Interment will follow in Old Forge Cemetery.
Relatives and friends may pay their respects on Friday between 5:00 and 8:00 PM in the Thomas P. Kearney Funeral Home, Inc., 517 North Main Street in Old Forge.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Eleanor’s name to the Moosic Assembly of God Church (477 3rd Street in Moosic, 18507).
