Peter Whah, age 86, a lifelong resident of Clarks Summit, passed away Friday morning at Dunmore’s Hospice Community Care following an illness. He is survived by his beloved wife of 58 years, the former Marjorie Smith. Born on July 5, 1924, son of the late Andrew and Anna Breychak Whah, Peter was educated at the former Ransom School. He was a stone and brick mason for Palumbo and Costanzo Construction Co. With 50 years of dedicated work, he was awarded special distinction by the Masons Union. Despite his retirement, he never stopped working and was always available and readily willing to give all he had to others. He was a very loving husband and father and a very doting grandpa.
He is survived by his daughter, Sandy Scanlon and husband Thomas of Clarks Summit, two grandchildren whom he adored, Devin and Maggie Scanlon, and many nieces and nephews.
His family would like to thank the nursing staff at Hospice Community Care for making Peter comfortable during his brief stay.
Four brothers and four sisters also preceded him in death.
Funeral services are scheduled for Monday at 10:00AM in the Thomas P. Kearney Funeral Home, Inc., 517 North Main Street in Old Forge, to be conducted by Rev. Dr. Jean-Pierre Duncan, Pastor of Countryside Community Church in Clarks Summit.
Interment will follow in Fairview Memorial Park in Elmhurst.
Relatives and friends may pay their respects on Sunday between 5-8:00PM at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Countryside Community Church (c/o 14001 Church Hill Road, Clarks Summit, 18411).
