Olga B. Metro, age 88, of Taylor
passed away Monday morning at her residence in the Gino J. Merli Veterans Center of Scranton. Born and raised in Taylor, daughter of the late Stephen and Mary Rubas Benn, after a tour of duty with the United States Army and gaining the rank of Sergeant at Fort McClellan, Alabama, she returned home and wed the late John A. Metro, Jr, who passed away on August 22, 2001. She then took on the role as mother and homemaker. She was an active member of the American Legion, Post 306 in Taylor, as well as the Holy Rosary Society. She found enjoyment in her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her passing is but an event, although what she taught and told will never be forgotten.
Surviving are her four children; son, Stephen Metro of Taylor, and daughters; Phyllis Surridge and husband Allen of Old Forge, Andrea Tomczyk and husband John of Taylor and Sandra Zigray and husband Robert of Olyphant, five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren, two brothers; Boden Benn of San Antonio, Texas, and Joseph Benn of Ridley Park, and two sisters; Alice Krenitsky of Brookville, Maryland, and Stephanie Babish of Folcroft.
She was also preceded in death by her first son, Andrew, III, and two brothers; Michael and Walter Benn.
The funeral will be held on Friday at 9:30AM Thomas P. Kearney Funeral Home, Inc., 517 North Main Street, Old Forge, with a 10AM Mass of Christian Burial in St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church, 408 North Main Street in Taylor, to be concelebrated by Rev. Francis L. Pauselli, Pastor, and Rev. Walter J. Benn, Jr., relative of the family. Interment will follow in the parish cemetery.
