Joseph N. Scaramastro, age 66, of Moosic, passed away Saturday morning at home. He survived by his wife of 45 years, Frances McHugh Scaramastro. The couple were wed on August 17, 1963. Born in Moosic on July 2, 1942, son of Elizabeth (Betty) Ray Scaramastro of Moosic and the late Nicholas Scaramastro. Joseph was educated at both St. Mary’s of Avoca and Moosic Schools. He had worked as a machinist for the Tobyhanna Army Depot. Of Roman Catholic faith, he was a member of St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, Avoca, and its choir group. He was also a former member of Moosic Hose Company. His favorite pasttime was photography.
Also surviving are his children; three sons, Joseph Scaramastro of Nanticoke, William Scaramastro and wife Deborah of Duryea and Michael Scaramastro, at home, a daughter, Frances Kielar and husband Kenneth of Taylor, four brothers; Nicholas Scaramastro of Scranton, Vincent Scaramastro and wife Alma of Moosic, Mark Scaramastro and wife Jeri of Old Forge and Rocco Scaramastro and wife Frances of Moosic, five sisters; Betty Letterman and husband Bradley of Baltimore, Maryland, Mary Ann Gilchrist and husband Donald of Avoca, Patricia Kwiatkowski and husband David of Old Forge, Jane Maxwell and husband Bert of Moosic and Susan Brunner and husband Jon of Norfolk, Virginia, eleven grandchildren; Victoria, Isabella, Alexander, Tatiana, Vladimir, Sergei, William, and Alexander Scaramastro and Kaitlyn, Kenny and Megan Kielar.
He was preceded in death by an infant sister, Barbara.
The funeral will be Wednesday at 8:45AM from the Thomas P. Kearney Funeral Home, Inc., 517 North Main Street, Old Forge, with a Mass Of Christian Burial at 9:30AM in St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, Hawthorne Street in Avoca, to be celebrated by the Rev. Philip J. Sladicka, Pastor. Interment will will follow in Holy Cross Cemetery, Old Forge.
Relatives and friends may pay their respects on Tuesday at the funeral home between 5-8PM.
