Patricia Calvitti Schreckengaust, R.N., M.S., C.R.N.P., age 62 of Waverly, passed away Thursday afternoon at the Moses Taylor Hospital in Scranton. Born in Old Forge on March 16, 1947, daughter of the late Theodore A. and Ruth M. Moladoski Calvitti, Patricia was a graduate of Old Forge High School, Class of 1964. She furthered her education by completing a GYN Nurse Practitioner Preceptorship at the University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, before graduating cum laude with a bachelors of Science and Nursing from Marywood University. She then became a Certified Nurse Practitioner after graduating magna cum laude from the State University of New York at Binghamton while receiving her masters degree of Science in Nursing. She worked as the clinical instructor of obstetrics at Penn State University .She was the chief school nurse for the Scranton School District.
A very active parishioner at the Church of St. Gregory’s in Clarks Green, she served as a Eucharistic Minister and was a member of both the parish council and the summer migrant program. She was also a member of the Junior League in Scranton and an active volunteer for both the Waverly Community House and the American Cancer Society.
The family would like to thank the Physicians’ Staff at the Moses Taylor Hospital, but especially the nurses of the ICU.
She is survived by her son, Dr. Richard Schreckengaust and wife Renee of San Diego, California, a sister, Judy Cosgrove and husband Gene of Scranton, two grandchildren; Reese Hill and Chase Ronan, and three nieces; Rachel and Karissa Calvitti and Elizabeth Cosgrove.
She was also preceded in death by a brother, Nicholas Calvitti.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday at 10AM at the Church of St. Gregory, 330 North Abington Road, Clarks Green, to be celebrated by Msgr. John H. Louis, Pastor. Relatives and friends may pay their respects at the church from 9AM until the time of service. Interment will follow in the Old Forge Cemetery, Smull Street.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made in Patricia’s name to the Church of St. Gregory (c/o 330 North Abington Road, Clarks Green, 18411) or to the charity of the donor’s choice.
