Obituaries

Eric Kowalcik, age 26, of Old Forge, passed away Friday afternoon at home. Born on June 1, 1982, in Old Forge, Eric was the son of Diane Bazzarri Kowalcik, with whom he resided, and the late Albert J. Kowalcik, Jr., who died on February 17, 1996. He was a graduate of Bishop Hannan High School, Class of 2001, before earning his Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice from Keystone College. Of Roman Catholic faith, he was a member of St. Mary’s of the Assumption Roman Catholic Church in Old Forge. He loved sports, especially baseball, and was an avid New York Yankees fan. A pet lover, he adored his “girls”, his two Dachshunds, Maya and Mollie. A loving son, brother, grandson, nephew and friend, words can not explain how much he will be missed.
He is survived by his sister, Amanda Kowalcik of Scranton, his maternal grandmother, Marguerite Bazzarri of Old Forge, his uncle, Joseph Bazzarri of Bethlehem and aunts, uncles and cousins.
He was preceded in death by paternal grandparents; Nancy and Albert J. Kowalcik, Sr., and a maternal grandfather, Giglio “Butch” Bazzarri.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 9:15AM from the Thomas P. Kearney Funeral Home, Inc., 517 North Main Street, Old Forge, with a 10AM Mass of Christian Burial in St. Mary’s of the Assumption RC Church, 123 Grace Street, to be celebrated by Rev. Joseph F. Cipriano, former Pastor. Interment will follow in Old Forge Cemetery, Smull Street. Relatives and friends may pay their respects on Monday between 2-4PM and 7-9PM at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Eric’s name to the Humane Society of Lackawanna County (c/o 967 Griffin Pond Road, Clarks Summit, 18411).
