Nora P. Calpin, R.N., age 89, a four-year resident of Allied Skilled Nursing Services and formerly of West Scranton, passed away Friday. She was preceded in death in 1941 by her first husband, Peter Pohanish, and in 1974 by her second husband, Francis Calpin. Born in Scranton on August 18, 1919, daughter of the late John and Theresa Cleary McNamara, Nora was a graduate of the former Scranton Technical High School. Upon graduation, she receieved her nursing degree from the Cresson State Hospital School of Nursing. A registered nurse, she worked for West Mountain Sanitarium and prior to retirement, for the Montefiore Jewish Hospital of Pittsburgh. Of Roman Catholic faith, she was a member of St. Patrick’s Roman Catholic Church, West Scranton, and its Society of the Faithful.
Surviving are her two sons; Richard Pohanish and wife Dina of Sedona, Arizona, and Patrick Calpin and wife Maryann of Marshalls Creek, a sister, Madelyn Friedman of Scranton, and four grandchildren; Barbara and Jennifer Pohanish and Erin Rose and Patrick Jamison Calpin.
Also preceding in death were brothers; Joseph F., John and Frank Calpin and sisters; Elizabeth Driebe, Catherine Bonner and Mary Pusateri.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 9AM from the Kearney Funeral Home, Inc., 125 North Main Avenue, Scranton, with a 9:30AM Mass of Christian Burial in St. Patrick’s RC Church, Jackson Street. Interment will follow in the Cathedral Cemetery, Oram Street. Relatives and friends may pay their respects on Tuesday between 4-7PM at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to the Hospice of the Sacred Heart (c/o 600 Baltimore Drive, Wilkes Barre, 18702).
