Obituaries

Anthony H. Marchese, age 92, of Old Forge, passed away Wednesday afternoon at the Moses Taylor Hospital in Scranton. He was preceded in death by his wife, Edna Clause Marchese, who died on December 26, 1986. Born in Parsons on May 28, 1916, son of the late Liborio and Rose Depolo Marchese, Anthony was a graduate of Old Forge High School, Class of 1933. He furthered his education at East Stroudsburg University, before attaining both his Bachelors and Masters Degrees from the University of Scranton. Prior to retirement, he spent 43 years working as a teacher for the Old Forge School District. He was a former Vice President of the Old Forge School Board and a member of both the Old Forge Council and Zoning Boards. He served as a sergeant while in the US Army. Of Roman Catholic faith, he was a member of St. Mary of the Assumption Roman Catholic Church in Old Forge.
He is survived by his daughter, Olivia Smith and husband Donald of Scranton, nieces and nephews, and his longtime companion, Elizabeth Davis of Old Forge, whose family he had always loved and considered part of his own.
Also precedining in death were brothers, Joseph and Philip Marchese.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 9:30AM from the Thomas P. Kearney Funeral Home, Inc., 517 N. Main Street, Old Forge, with 10AM Mass of Christian Burial in St. Mary of the Assumption RC Church to be celebrated by Rev. Louis T. Kaminski, Pastor. Interment will follow in Old Forge Cemetery. Relatives and friends may pay their respects on Friday between 2-4PM and 6-8PM at the funeral home.
