Phillip Thomas, Sr., age 85, of Moosic, passed away Saturday afternoon at home. He is survived by his wife, Martha Wilder Thomas, with whom he resided. They had celebrated their 63rd wedding anniversary on July 19th. Born in Moosic on March 7, 1923, son of the late Mary and Lewis Thomas, Philip had graduated from Moosic Schools. He had worked as a butcher, most recently for Robesons of Scranton. Of Protestant faith, he was a member of the Moosic Presbyterian Church. He was a member of the Masons and an avid hunter and fisherman.
Also surviving are his two sons; Philip S. Thomas, Jr. and wife Mary Jo of Harding and Ronald Thomas and wife Joyce of Moosic, and three grandchildren; Taras Thomas, Melissa Downs and Christopher Bender.
He was also preceded in death by a brother, John, and a sister, Gladys Odgers.
Private funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family by Rev. Dr. Susan J. Ezell, Pastor of the Moosic Presbyterian Church, with interment in the Springbrook Cemetery. There will be no public visitation.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the family (c/o RR 1, Box 206 C, Coolidge Avenue, Harding, 18643). Arrangements are under the care of the Thomas P. Kearney Funeral Home, 517 N. Main Street, Old Forge.
