Obituaries

Virginia Sobeck, age 78 , of South Abington Township, passed away early Monday morning while at home. She is survived by her husband, David Sobeck. They had celebrated their 58th wedding anniversary on July 1st. Born in Scranton on December 14, 1929, daughter of the late David and Edna Shafer Thomas, Virginia was educated in Scranton Schools. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Clarks Summit.
Her children were her life and she was active in many of their activities.
Also surviving are her children; a son, David Sobeck and wife Debbie of Gilbert, Arizona; and a daughter, Linda Hatton and husband James of Clarks Summit; a brother, Samuel Thomas and wife Marie; a sister,
Doris Przynosch and many nieces and nephews.
Five grandchildren, Rebecca Good and husband Jim , and Kristin Tackett and husband Brad, both of whom were born on their grandparent’s anniversary, David Sobeck, III and wife Jocelyn; James Hatton, Jr. and wife Paula; and Tracy and husband Dr. Bryan Roth.Eleven great-grandchildren completed her life.
She was also preceded in death by brothers, William, Robert, and David Thomas.
Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday at 10AM in the Kearney Funeral Home, Inc., 125 N. Main Avenue, West Scranton, by the Rev. William G. Carter, Pastor of the First Presbyterian Church, Clarks Summit. Interment will follow at Abington Hills Cemetery. Relatives and friends may pay their respects on Tuesday between 5-8PM at the funeral home.
