Robert D.Kingsley, age 83, of Wallenpaupack Lake Estates in Lake Ariel, and formerly of West Scranton, passed away Sunday morning at Scranton’s Community Medical Center. He is survived by his wife, Hilda M. Fritzen Kingsley. They would have celebrated their 62nd Wedding Anniversary on November 16th of this year. Born in West Scranton on February 21, 1925, son of the late George and Eustelle Langan Kingsley, Robert was a graduate of West Scranton High School’s first graduating class, class of 1943. He was a Navy Veteran of WWII where he received the Pacific Theater, Philippine Leberation and American Theater Ribbons and the Victory Medal. Prior to his retirement, he worked as a clerk for the United States Postal Service in both Scranton and Taylor. A very active member of St. Patrick’s Roman Catholic Church, he was also a member of the church’s Society of the Faithful, a longtime usher, and the scout master of Troop 52. As a member of the Knights of Columbus, he was a 4th Degree Knight, Council 280, serving as both the past Faithful Navigator and Grand Knight. He was a member of the Lincoln Heights branch of the American Legion. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, relative and friend, who will be dearly missed.
Also surviving are his children; sons, Thomas Kingsley of Lake Wallenpaupak and Robert Kingsley, Jr., and wife Frances of Lake Ariel, and daughters, Marge Orr of Taylor and Susan Christensen and husband David of Nicholson; a sister, Eustelle Petrochko and husband Theodore of Jermyn; seven grandchildren, Megan McCabe, Joseph Orr, Kelly Wyatt, Maureen and Robert Kingsley, III, Caitlyn and Cody Christensen; and five great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews and grand nieces and grand nephews
Also preceding in death were sisters, Romaine Moessner and Ruth McAndrew, and brothers, George and Paul Kingsley.
Funeral Services will be Thursday at 9:30AM from the Kearney Funeral Home, Inc., 125 N. Main Avenue, Scranton with a 10AM Mass of Christian Burial at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Chapel, Oram Street. Entombment will follow in the Cathedral Cemetery Mausoleum. Relatives and friends may pay their respects on Wednesday between 5-8PM at the funeral home.
