John M. Carmadella, age 81, of Old Forge, passed away Monday morning under the care of Community Medical Center’s VNA Hospice. He is survived by his wife, Laura (Loretta) Splendido Carmadella. Married on August 16th, 1952, they were married for 56 years. Born in Old Forge on January 11, 1927, son of the late John M. and Rose Puduta Carmadella, John was educated in Old Forge Schools. An Army Veteran of WWII, he served in the 27th Infantry Division, 44th Tank Batalion. He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans. Of Roman Catholic faith, he was also a member of St. Mary of the Assumption Church, Old Forge. He was an avid bowler and golfer.
Also surviving are his sons, John Carmadella and wife Dorothy of San Dimas, CA, and Richard Carmadella and wife Kathy of Scranton; five grandchildren, Kimberly Carmadella of New Smyrna, FL, William Deininger and wife Nicole, Hilary Gross and husband Alex, Lauren and Crystal Deininger, all of Scranton; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Also preceding in death was a sister, Dolores; and brothers, Frank and Tony Carmadella.
Funeral services will begin Thursday at 9AM from the Thomas P. Kearney Funeral Home Inc., 517 N. Main Street, Old Forge, with a 9:30AM Mass of Christian Burial in St. Mary of the Assumption Church, corner of Lawrence and W. Grace Street, to be celebrated by Rev. Louis T. Kaminski, Pastor. Interment will follow at Old Forge Cemetery. Relatives and friends may pay their respects on Wednesday between 5-8PM at the funeral home.
