Idris T. Pugh, age 91, of West Scranton, died Monday morning at home. He is survived by his wife Arlene Morris Pugh.They celebrated their 61st wedding anniversary on November 24th.
Born in Llwynypia , Wales he was the son of the late William and Alma Maidment Pugh. He was educated in schools in Wales. He Served in the Army during World War II . He received the good conduct medal, the American Campaign Medal, the European African Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with 4 bronze stars, the WWII Victory Medal, and the bronze star medal. He served in the battles and campaigns of Northern France, the Rhineland, the Ardennes , the Battle of the Bulge, and Central Europe. Before his retirement he was employed by C & V Fabrics of Plains and prior to that was a foreman with the former Butler Silk Mill in Old Forge. He was a member of the Nebo Congregational United Church of Christ, Old Forge.
He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather.He was an avid NY Yankees and Penn State Fan.
Also surviving is one son,
Ben Pugh and his wife Gladys of Waymart. Two granddaughters;Amy Burkhart and her husband John and Mary Amanda Gordon and her husband Brandan.One great grandson Collin Burkhart and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by brothers William, George, and Ivor Joseph Pugh and a sister Audrey Violet Jones.
The funeral will be Thursday at 11:00 A.M. in the Nebo Congregational United Church of Christ , 208 North Main Street in Old Forge with services by the Rev. Carl Brigido,
Pastor.Interment will be in Milwaukee Cemetery in Ransom Twp.
Friends may call Wednesday 4-7 P.M. in the Thomas P. Kearney Funeral Home, 517 North Main Street, Old Forge.
