David Dennis, 84, of Moosic, died Wednesday morning. He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Barbara Tinklepaugh Dennis. Born on October 2, 1922, David was the son of the late John and Eva Decker Dennis. After attending Moosic Schools, he bravely fought for our country in the Army during World War II, garnering numerous decorations, including: WW2 victory and good conduct medals, the distinguished unit badge, the Philippines liberation ribbon with two bronze stars, and the Asiatic Pacific campaign medal with two bronze stars and one bronze arrowhead. Following the war, he was the owner and operator of the Dennis Brothers’ Garage, served as a Moosic police officer, and retired as a field foremen for State Equipment, Plains. A long-time member of the Moosic Alliance Church, he was also an active member in the VFW #5209, the Duryea American Legion, and the Operating Engineers Union, Local 542.

David was a loving husband, father, brother, grandfather, uncle, and friend who will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

The family wishes to extend their gratitude to Dr. Sander Levinson, the Hospice of Sacred Heart, the Hospice Community Care Staff, and the Nursing Staff at the Moses Taylor Hospital.

Also surviving are four children: Terri Berto-Fick with husband Atty. Nicholas E. Fick, Moosic, Thomas Decker, Moosic, Roberta Galuska, Old Forge, and Susan Tucker with husband James, Moosic; two brothers: James Dennis, Stroudsburg, and John Dennis, Lake Ariel; eight grandchildren: Taylor Berto, John Decker, Joseph Decker, Amy Decker, Megan Decker, Austin Decker, James Tucker, and Atty. Heather Tucker; two great-grandchildren: James and John Tucker.

Preceding in death were both a brother, George Dennis, and a sister, June Smallacombe.

The funeral will be Saturday at 10AM in the Thomas P. Kearney Funeral Home, 517 N. Main Street, Old Forge, with services by the Reverend Doctor Susan J. Ezell, Pastor of the Moosic Presbyterian Church. Interment will be at the Marcy Cemetery, Duryea. Friends may pay respects Friday between 5-9PM.
