Gregory E. Herie, age 75, a resident of West Scranton since 1967, died Wednesday morning at the Dunmore Health Care Center. His wife the former, Sophie S. Starecheski, died April 7, 2001.
Born in Glenville, New York on September 20, 1929, he was the son of the late Edward Joseph and Nellie Reed Herie, he settled in West Scranton in 1967. He was a graduate of the former Scranton Technical High School. He was an Army veteran of World War II. While in the service he received the WWII Victory Medal and the Army Occupation of Japan Medal. Prior to retirement, he was employed for 30 years by the Atlantic and Pacific Tea Company. He was a member of St. Patrick’s Roman Catholic Church, West Scranton and a member of the church’s Society of the Faithful
He is survived by his
Four Sons, Mark James and
John Douglass, both of Scranton and Brian Gregory Herie, Brandon, Fla. and Allan Edward Herie of Moosic.
Two sisters;
Elizabeth Kittle, of Rye Beach, New Hampshire and
Diane Ryan, of Wyalusing , Pa. A brother, Peter F. Herie, of Scranton.

He was preceded in death by a brother Maurice James Herie.
Cremation will take place in the Maple Hill at Salem Crematory in Archbald.
A memorial mass will be held on
Tuesday in St. Patrick’s Roman Catholic Church, Jackson St., West Scranton at 9:30 A.M.. Interment of his cremains will follow in Abington Hills Cemetery, South Abington Twp.. Arrangements by Durkan-Cuff-Kearney Funeral Home, 125 N.Main Ave., West Scranton.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Dunmore Health Care Center 1000 Mill Street in Dunmore, Pennsylvania 18512 or to the Mercy Hospice Unit C/C 746 Jefferson Avenue Scranton, Pa. 18510
