Robert Leland Ferrel, 72, of Taylor, died Thursday afternoon at home. He is survived by his wife, Phyllis Morgan Ferrel. They would have celebrated their 48th wedding anniversary on September 12th.
Born in Carbondale on December 29, 1934, Robert was the son of the late Leland and Marion Wennington Ferrel. He was a graduate of Ben Franklin High School in Carbondale and Lackawanna Junior College.He attended Penn State University. He also attended IBM School. A veteran of both the Korean and Vietnam Wars, Robert served in the United States Air Force for 21 years. He was stationed in Bermuda with the Hurricane Hunters. He was also employed by Anemostat in Scranton and worked for Vector Security in Hamlin for 5 years.
Also surviving are two sons, William Ferrel and his wife Brenda, both of Mechanicsburg, and David Ferrel at home. Also surviving are three grandchildren, Kristine Ferrel of Peoria, Arizona, Douglas Ferrel, at home, and Marcia Ferrel of Mechanicsburg, one great-grandchild, Aubrey, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by a brother William Ferrel.
The funeral with will be Monday at 11:00 A.M. in the Thomas P. Kearney Funeral Home, 517 N. Main Street, Old Forge, with services by the Rev. Barbara Snyder, Pastor of the Carbondale United Methodist Church.
Interment will be at Forty Fort Cemetery in Forty Fort.Friends may call Sunday from 5-8 P.M.
Military honors will be conducted by the AMVETS Post # 189 in Dupont.
