Anthony W. Viercinski, 80, of Old Forge, died Friday morning at the Wilkes-Barre General Hospital. His wife is Betty Taylor. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Matilda Plis. Born on September 15, 1926 in Old Forge, he was the son of the late Anthony and Julia Borinski Viercinski. He was educated in Old Forge parochial schools. He served in the Navy during World War II where he received both the Pacific Theater and the American Theater Ribbons and also the Victory Medal. He was a life member of the Dupont Post #4909 VFW. Before his retirement he was employed by the Acme Markets. He was a member of St. Michael’s Roman Catholic Church in Old Forge.
Also surviving is his sister,
Helen Lakachko of Taylor, three brothers, Walter of Pittston, John of Taylor, and
Stanley Viercinski of Old Forge, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by
two brothers, Anthony Jr. and Felix Viercinski.
A funeral with full military honors by the VFW Post #4909 will be conducted on Tuesday at 8:30 A.M. from the Thomas P. Kearney Funeral Home, 517 N. Main Street, Old Forge with mass of the christian burial at 9:00 A.M. in St. Michael’s Roman Catholic Church, Vine Street, Old Forge, to be celebrated by the Rev. Joseph M. Brozena, Pastor. Entombment will follow in the Sacred Heart Mausoleum in Dupont. Friends may visit Monday between 5-8 P.M.
