Mary A. (Gallagher) Toole, of the Greenwood section of Moosic, passed away peacefully on Monday after a brief illness. She was 86 years young.

On May 5, 2016, she was preceded in death by the love of her life and husband of 54 years, Walter Toole, Jr.

Born in Scranton and daughter of the late Edward and Mary (Reardon) Gallagher, Mary was educated at the former Scranton Technical High School. A devoted Roman Catholic, she was an active member of Divine Mercy Parish in Scranton’s Minooka section where she volunteered and participated within the parish in countless ways, including as a member of the Altar and Rosary Society.

To know Mary was to adore her. Simply upon meeting her one would feel her genuine and loving spirit. Now reunited with her beloved Walter, she will be dearly missed by her loving family and dear friends.

She is survived by her nieces and nephews who adored their Aunt Mary.

The last surviving of the Gallagher siblings, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Edward, James and Joseph Gallagher.

A Mass of Christian Burial is scheduled for Saturday at 11:00 AM at Divine Mercy Parish, 312 Davis Street in Scranton, to be celebrated by Rev. Paul McDonnell, Pastor. Burial will follow at St. Joseph’s Parish Cemetery in Scranton.

Family and friends may say their goodbyes at the church on Saturday from 10:00 AM until Mass.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Mary’s name to the donor’s favorite charity.
