Michael John McAndrew, Sr., age 69, of Old Forge, passed away on Friday evening.
Born on June 24, 1954, and raised in Moosic, Michael was the son of the late James P. and Loretta (Klimek) McAndrew. A 1973 graduate of Riverside High School, he next studied at Johnson Technical Institute. A lifelong welder by trade, he would go on to work for CertainTeed products in Mountain Top for many years. During his career he would notably patent a device to bag insulation.
Michael will forever be remembered in so many ways. He loved his sports, especially the local high school sports circuit, and was a faithful Seton Hall Pirates fan.
He loved to travel, visiting everywhere from Ireland to Mexico. Also a true historian who loved Civil War knowledge, especially in Gettysburg, he was also a member of the Anthracite Coal Region of NEPA’s Breaker Association.
Kind, generous and comical, Michael will never be forgotten by his adoring family and countless friends.
He is survived by his loving family, including his wife, Bethanne (Schmidt) McAndrew; his sons, Lee McAndrew and wife Erin of Old Forge and Michel McAndrew, Jr. and wife Amanda of Duryea; three grandchildren, Alivia, Addison and Teagan; siblings, James McAndrew, Jr. and wife Maria of Scranton and Kathleen (McAndrew) Nocera and husband Thomas of Moosic; and nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial is scheduled for Tuesday at 10:00 AM in Queen of the Apostles Parish, 715 Hawthorne St, Avoca, to be celebrated by Rev. Phillip Sladicka, Pastor. Burial will follow at St. Peter and Paul Cemetery in Moosic. Those attending the funeral are asked to go directly to church.
Family and friends may pay their respects on Monday between between 4-6:00 PM at the Thomas P. Kearney Funeral Home, Inc., 517 North Main Street, Old Forge.
