Anthony "Tony" Morelli, 78, of West Scranton, died Tuesday morning at the Moses Taylor Hospital in Scranton. He is survived by his wife Joan Battle Morelli. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on September 15th of last year.
Born on March 4, 1929, in Dunmore, he was the son of the late Anthony P. and Caroline Muracco Morelli. He attended Dunmore and Boundbrook, NJ schools and was an Army veteran who served in the Korean War. Prior to retirement, he worked as the Chief Police and Fire Dispatcher for the City of Scranton. He was a member of St. Patrick’s Roman Catholic Church, West Scranton, its Society of the Faithful and the Sons of Italy.
Tony was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, who put family above all else. He enjoyed sports, music, and was an active golfer until his recent illness. His smile lit up a room and he enjoyed nothing more than being surrounded by his family and friends.

Also surviving are three sons: George Morelli and wife Joanne, Yorktown Heights, NY.; Anthony Morelli and wife Laura, Towanda; Joseph Morelli and wife Rosemarie, Exton; two daughters: Kathy Figured and husband Jack, Scranton; Ann Marie Mazzarella and husband Nick, New York, NY.; two sisters: Millie Morelli and Jean Sabia, both of Dunmore; eight grandchildren: Matthew and Michael Figured; Jessica and Catherine Morelli; Mary Kathleen and Emily Morelli; Michael and Patrick Morelli; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by five brothers: Casper, Joseph, Jake, Flory, and Sammy Morelli; and four sisters: Mary Greco, Connie Fiorenza, Ann Bouselli, and Catherine Marsh.

The funeral will be Tuesday at 9 AM from the Durkan-Cuff-Kearney Funeral Home, 125 N. Main Avenue, West Scranton, with mass of the Christian Burial at 9:30 A.M. in St. Patrick’s Roman Catholic Church, Jackson Street, West Scranton.
Interment will be in Cathedral Cemetery in Scranton. Friends may pay their respects at the funeral home on Monday from 4 to 8 PM.
