John "Jack" E. Hughes, Sr., age 69, a resident of the Laurels in Wyoming, formerly of West Scranton died Wednesday evening at the Wilkes Barre General Hospital in Wilkes Barre.His wife, the former Betty Lou Thomas Hughes, died December 6, 2003.
Born in West Scranton on March 8, 1938 he was the son of the late Joseph and Helen Morgan Hughes. He was a graduate of West Side High School, Class of 1956. Prior to his retirement, he was employed by Chamberlain, for 35 years.

He is survived by his two sons, John "Jack" Hughes, Jr. and his wife, Carole, of Scranton and Christopher Hughes and his companion, Rose Nichols, Olyphant, a sister, Deborah McCarthy, and her husband Kevin, of Scranton and two brothers, Harry Hughes and his wife, Nancy, of Pompano Beach, Fla. and Robert Hughes, and his wife, Pat, of Dunmore, two grandchildren, Tommy and Kristina Hughes, and a great granddaughter, Mia, several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by two brothers Donald in 2006 and Joseph in 2002.

The funeral will be Monday at 9:00 A.M. from the Durkan-Cuff-Kearney Funeral Home, 125 North Main Avenue, West Scranton with a blessing service at 9:30 A.M.in St. Patrick’s Roman Catholic Church, Jackson Street in Scranton. Entombment will be in the Cathedral Cemetery Mausoleum .
Friends may call at the funeral home on Sunday from 4:00 to 7:00 P.M.
