Kathleen (Costello) Barber, age 69 and a lifelong resident of North Scranton, passed away Monday evening at Regional Hospital of Scranton, after an illness. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Ronald Barber, on March 18, 1989.
Born on December 17, 1952, and daughter of the late Naomi (Smith) Wynn and Thomas “Tucker” Costello, Kathleen was a graduate of the former Scranton Technical High School. She was a graduate of Allied Services Certified Nursing Assistant Program before beginning a career in health care and working for Lee’s Nursing Registries, prior to her retirement due to illness.
A longtime member of Mary, Mother of God Parish in North Scranton, Kathleen was also an active volunteer for countless local charities and fundraising benefits. She was a longtime member and former cook at the North Scranton Polish Club and also a longtime member of the Scranton Pool League. Also a sports fan, she loved her NASCAR racing and was a lifelong and loyal fan of the Buffalo Bills.
To be forever missed by her family and friends, Kathleen will always be loved.
She is survived by her loving family including three children, Ronald Barber of Scranton, Melissa Petrillo and husband Carmine of Boardman, Ohio, and Robert Barber and wife Kaylan of Scranton; four grandchildren, Gabriella Tessema and husband Michael, Alexandra Petrillo and fiance Ryan Mastele, Julianna Petrillo and Ryan Barber; a step-brother, Charles Wynn of Scranton; and nieces and nephews.
A granddaughter, Kirsty, and three brothers, Thomas, Daniel and Paul Costello, also preceded her in death.
Her family would like to sincerely thank the entire staff of Regional Hospital’s Intensive Care Unit for all the care given to Kathleen during her stay.
Funeral services will begin on Friday at 8:45 AM from the Kevin K. Kearney Funeral Home, Inc., 125 North Main Avenue, Scranton, with a 9:30 AM Mass of Christian Burial at Holy Rosary Church at Mary, Mother of God Parish, to be celebrated by Rev. Cy Edwards, Pastor. Burial will follow at the Cathedral Cemetery.
Family and friends may pay their respects on Thursday between 4-7:00PM at the funeral home.
