Benjamin “Hurricane” Thomas Hannon, Sr., age 68, of Old Forge, passed away Wednesday morning at home, one day after the 20-year anniversary of the death of his beloved wife, Sharon (Golden) Hannon.
Born in Pittston on November 23, 1953, and son of the late Hal and Hilda (Perfetto) Hannon, Ben was educated at Riverside High School. A lifelong roofer, he was the longtime owner and operator of the Hurricane Roofing Co.
From rooting for the Miami Hurricanes to attending his son’s sporting events to collecting sports cards, Ben loved his sports.
He loved people. His friendliness, engaging personality and perpetual smile will never be forgotten. He was one of a kind.
He is survived by his children, Benjamin Hannon, Jr. and wife Marissa of Clarks Summit and Stephanie Helring and husband Robert of FL.; four grandchildren; a great granddaughter; and siblings, Maryanne Maczuga and husband Louis of Moosic, Harold Hannon and wife Janice of Avoca, Joseph Hannon of Carbondale, Christopher Hannon of Moosic and George Hannon of Moosic; and many nieces and nephews. Brothers, Ronald and Michael Hannon, also preceded him in death.
His family would like to thank the entire staffs of both Interim Healthcare and Geisinger Home Health for their collective care and compassion throughout Ben’s illness.
A Mass of Christian Burial is scheduled for Tuesday at 12:00 PM at Divine Mercy Parish, 312 Davis St., Scranton, to be celebrated by Rev. Francis Pauselli, Pastor. Burial will follow at the Cathedral Cemetery.
Those wishing to attend the funeral are asked to go directly to church.
