Luretha M. Johnson, of Blakeslee and Scranton, passed away Tuesday evening.
Born on October 14, 1924 in Darlington County, S.C., she was the eldest child born to Bessie Slater and William Butler. Luretha attended school in South Carolina and as a young lady later met and married Alphonso Johnson. After the births of her children, Luretha migrated to New York and settled in Brooklyn, and remained there over 40 years. She was a faithful member of the Emmanuel Temple Church in Brooklyn.
Luretha also known affectionately as "Nana" and "Mother Johnson" relocated to Blakeslee, PA in 2000 and resided with her son. She maintained residences in Blakeslee and Scranton until the time of her demise.

Survivors include her children, Alice Cabbagestalk of Brooklyn, NY, Modestine Singelton of Staten Island, NY, Ray Johnson, Pastor of the Salvation Apostolic Temple and his wife Keitha, Scranton and Blakeslee, two sisters, Pauline Adams of Ecorse, MI and Ardelia (Jesse) Simms of Durham, N.C., 6 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews, cousins, godchildren, friends and her church family Salvation Apostolic Church.
She was preceded in death by daughter, Ernestine Williams and a son, Ernest Woods.

The funeral service will be Tuesday at 12:00 P.M. in the Salvation Apostolic Temple 223 N. Main Ave., Scranton , Pastor Ray Johnson and Rev. Dr. Derek G. Pierson, officiating. Interment will be in Forest Hill Cemetery, Dunmore.
Friends may call at the church from 11:00 A.M. until the time of the service.
