Joseph D. Boyko, age 72, of Taylor, died Friday morning at the Mercy Hospital in Scranton.
He is survived by his wife Jean (Condon) Boyko.They celebrated their 47th wedding anniversary on June 7th
Born on May 1, 1933 in Taylor he was the son of the late Michael and Jean Mangan Boyko.He was a 1950 graduate of Taylor High School.He was an Army veteran of the Korean War where received the Good Conduct Medal and the National Defense Service Medal.Before his retirement he was employed by the Bricklayers Union Local #5 and also was a life member of 50 years of the International Union of Bricklayers & Allied Craft Workers.He was a member of St. Ann’s Basilica.
He was a gentle man who enjoyed his retirement years traveling with his wife, enjoying his family, and his art of stained glass.
Also surviving are two Sons,
Michael and Frank both of Taylor.Three daughters, Mary Mahon of Stanhope, N.J., Ellen Pieczynski of Kingston, and
Anne Wasko of Clarks Summit.Five grandchildren, Eric and Ellen Mahon, Michael Joseph Boyko, and Jack and Erin Wasko and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be Monday with mass of the Christian burial at 10:30 A.M. in St. Ann’s Basilica, St. Ann’s Street in Scranton.Friends may call at the church from 9:30 A.M. until mass time.Interment will be at St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Scranton.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to St. Ann’s Basilica C/O 1250 St. Ann’s Street in Scranton, Pa. 18504
