Ruth Marmo, ago 79 of Old Forge, passed away Saturday evening at Regional Hospital in Scranton. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 39 years, Eugene Marmo, on January 23, 2009. Born in Wilkes Barre and daughter of the late William and Margaret Carey Weidow, Ruth graduated from Hanover Twp. High School before earning her Bachelors Degree in Business Administration from College Misericordia. She worked as a marketing respresentative for the Pennsylvania Gas & Water Company for 29 years prior to her retirement. She led a selfless life, always caring for others. A longtime volunteer, she took great pride in helping Hospice of the Sacred Heart and Geisinger Wyoming Valley, just to name a few. A recent member of the Moosic Presbyterian Church, she was also a longtime member of both UNICO National and the Century Club of Scranton. From her days as a member of the high school choir, throughout her life she always enjoyed singing. She will be forever missed by those who loved her.
She is survived by her brother, Henry Weidow and wife Shirley of Wilkes Barre; her sister, Glenda Engle of North Carolina; her brother-in-law, Albert Marmo of Maryland; numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
Six brothers and seven sisters also preceded her in death.
Funeral services to be conducted by Rev. Roger Griffith, Pastor of the Moosic Presbyterian Church, are scheduled for Thursday at 1:00PM in the Thomas P. Kearney Funeral Home, Inc., 517 N. Main Street in Old Forge. Interment will follow in Old Forge Cemetery. Family and friends may pay their respects on Thursday between 12:00PM and services.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Ruth’s name to Hospice of the Sacred Heart, 600 Baltimore Drive, Wilkes-Barre, Pa., 18702.
