James J. Petrie, age 66, of S. Abington Twp., died suddenly Thursday evening at Regional Hospital of Scranton. He is survived by his beloved wife, Kathleen Lewis Petrie. The couple wed on April 20, 1974 and celebrated 40 years of marriage together.
Born in Scranton on October 21, 1948, son of the late Robert and Mary (Mollie) Golden Petrie, Jim was proud of his Scottish heritage. A graduate of Lakewood High School, Lakewood, Ohio, he became a fan of Cleveland sports. He attended the University of Tennessee at Nashville. An Army Sgt. during the Vietnam War, he earned the National Defense Service, Vietnam Service, Vietnam Campaign and Army Commendation Medals for his honorable service to his country. He led a career in media sales, and often fondly recalled promoting records in the 70s. His love for music led him to write and publish songs in Nashville. Upon retirement, he enjoyed reading, and fishing at the family cottage on Coxton Lake.
He is also survived by his loving son, Matthew Petrie and wife Gvantsa of Scranton; sister, Joan Gaardsmoe of Kingston; and many nieces and nephews.
His brother, Robert Petrie, also preceded him in death on November 12, 2013.
