John Karl Joseph Blackburn, age 53, of North Scranton, died Monday in the VNA Hospice Inpatient Unit of Geisinger C. M. C., Scranton. Survived by his beloved wife, Teri DeForest Blackburn, the couple were to celebrate their 31st anniversary on January 25th.
Born on June 16, 1961, son of Marie Bieszczad Blackburn and the late Julian (Paul) Blackburn, John was a veteran of the United States Air Force and most recently worked as a Computer Technician for Cinram, Olyphant.
His family lost their hero on Monday. A brave, intelligent, dedicated and deeply caring man, he was devoted to providing the best life possible for his family. He served as a father figure to many, and a husband to one. He was a beloved son and the best friend anyone could have asked for. His loved ones’ souls ache with his absence, but although their lives have changed forever with him gone, they’re forever grateful for having him in their lives. Loved by all who had the pleasure of knowing him, he will be forever missed.
He is also survived by his two adoring children, Ambrose and Juliana Blackburn, both of Scranton; his two siblings, Eric Blackburn of New Mexico and Laura Calderon of Peckville; and two nieces.
His family would like to express their deep and abiding appreciation to both Dr. Michael Kondash and the entire staff of VNA Hospice for the collective care given to John throughout his illness.
Pending memorial services to be handled by the Kevin K. Kearney Funeral Home, Inc., 125 North Main Avenue, Scranton, will be announced in a future edition of the Scranton Times.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in John’s name to the American Cancer Society, 712 South Keyser Ave., Taylor, pa., 18517.
