Veronica (Vera) P. Mazaleski, age 93, of Old Forge, passed away Sunday evening at Mountain View Care Center in Scranton. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Dr. Stanley C. Mazaleski, on June 10, 1973.
Born in Old Forge on June 25, 1921, daughter of the late Stanley and Della Graboski Tetlock, Vera graduated from Scranton Central High School, Class of 1939, before earning her Associates Degree from Keystone Junior College in 1941. Prior to her retirement, she worked alongside her husband as a secretary at his medical office.
As a young woman, she earned her private pilot’s license, an accomplishment she was very proud of. An avid bowler, she also enjoyed ceramics, knitting and crocheting, She also enjoyed traveling, having seen much of the world during her life. Of Roman Catholic faith, she was a longtime member of the former St. Michael’s Church in Old Forge. A compassionate mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, she leaves behind a lasting legacy of generosity, kindness and love, while living her life to the fullest. She will be dearly missed.
She is survived by her four adoring children, Ann Fumanti and husband Joseph, Stanley Mazaleski and wife Fran, William Mazaleski and wife Karen, all of Old Forge, and Michael Mazaleski and wife Eileen of Falls Church, Virginia; seven grandchildren, Stanley Mazaleski of Old Forge, Jo Ann Pepsin and husband Kevin of Old Forge, Lisa Mazaleski of Annapolis, Maryland, Greg Mazaleski and wife Amanda of New Jersey, Maria Yanniello and husband John of Old Forge, Megan Gerlach and husband Aaron of Springbrook Twp., and Renee Fumanti of Old Forge; eight great grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
A brother, Stanley Tetlock and his wife Joan, also preceded her in death.
Her family wishes to thank Dr. Kenneth Sebastianelli and also the entire staff of Mountain View Care Center for the tremendous care they collectively gave Vera throughout her illness.
Funeral services are scheduled to begin on Thursday at 9:30AM from the Thomas P. Kearney Funeral Home, Inc., 517 North Main Street, Old Forge, with a 10AM Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary of the Assumption Church at Prince of Peace Parish, 123 West Grace Street in Old Forge, to be celebrated by Rev. August A. Ricciardi, Pastor. Interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery in Old Forge. Relatives and friends may pay their respects on Wednesday between 5-7:00PM at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Vera’s name to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN, 38105, or Mountain View Care Center Auxilliary, 2309 Stafford Avenue, Scranton, PA, 18505.
