Obituaries

Joanne Sanders, age 66, of West Scranton, died Thursday at the Commonwealth Hospice Inpatient Unit of Regional Hospital in Scranton.
Born in Dunmore on October 23, 1947, daughter of the late Margaret and Vincent Occhipinti, Joanne was a graduate of Dunmore High School, Class of 1964. Along with raising her adoring family, she enjoyed reading, crocheting and listening to music. A loving mother, sister and grandmother, she will be greatly missed.
She is survived by her three children, Melissa Luizza and husband Jeff of Old Forge, Joanne Gacek and husband Jerry of Scranton, and Ralph Sanders of Jessup; three siblings, Rosaria Occhipinti of Scranton, Lucia Ozwald and husband George of Dalton, and Vincent Occhipinti of Maryland; four grandchildren; six great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
A sister, Margaret Mason, also preceded her in death.
Her family wishes to extend their thanks to the nursing staff of Commonwealth Hospice for the care and compassion given to Joanne throughout her stay with them.
