John “Pookie” Rubel, Jr., 76 of Duryea, passed away Friday morning at home. He is survived by his beloved wife, Geraldine Cox Rubel.
Born in Moosic, on September 11, 1937, son of the late John, Sr., and Helen Myterotrsky Rubel. John was a graduate of the former Moosic High School class of 1955. A proud Veteran of the US Marines, he was stationed in Japan during Vietnam and was awarded the Good Conduct Medal. Prior to his retirement, he worked for over 20 years for Dupont Motorlines as a mechanic. John was a member of the Monroeton Rod and Gun Club, the NRA, and attended the Moosic Alliance Community Church.
John’s favorite pastime was camping and hunting in Wyalusing. He was a loving husband, father, and brother who will be dearly missed.
The family would like to express their heartfelt thanks to the entire staff of the Henry Cancer Center at Geisinger Wyoming Valley for the care and compassion given to John during his illness.
Surviving in addition to his wife are a daughter, Michelle Camp, and husband, Lee, Murrells Inlet, SC and a sister, Dorothy Leyshon, Inkerman.
His brother, Richard Rubel, preceded him in death.
Funeral services are scheduled for Tuesday at 11:30 AM in the Thomas P. Kearney Funeral Home, Inc, 517 N Main Street, Old Forge, to be celebrated by Rev. Doug Jensen, pastor of Moosic Alliance Community Church. Military Honors will be rendered by the AMVETS Honor Guard.
Relatives and friends may pay their respects on Tuesday from 10 AM until the time of the service.
