Barbara Tinklepaugh, age 97, a lifelong resident of Duryea, passed away Monday at the Scranton Health Care Center. She was preceded in death in 1983 by her husband of 49 years, Herman Tinklepaugh, Sr.
Born on October 15, 1916, daughter of the late Isaac and Suzanna Coolbaugh Hall, Barbara was a graduate of the former Duryea High School, Class of 1934. Alongside her husband, she owned and operated Barb’s Lunch in Moosic. A pillar of the Duryea Alliance Church before its closing, she served on the church’s board as treasurer and also taught Sunday School. More recently, she was a member of the Moosic Alliance Community Church where she was a proud member of their ladies’ group. A loving mother, sister, grandmother, aunt and friend, she will be dearly missed by the many who loved her.
She is survived by her sons, Herman Tinklepaugh, Jr., with whom she resided, and Joseph Tinklepaugh of Mansfield, Ohio; her daughters, Patricia Heil and husband Lydon of Taylor, and Betty Onions and husband Tom of Greentown; her sister, Margaret Urban of Old Forge; seventeen grandchildren; many great and great-great grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
Her family wishes to thank the entire staff of Scranton Health Care Center for the care and compassion shown to them throughout Barbara’s stay.
She was also preceded in death by daughters, an infant Barbara and Barbara Joan Dennis; a brother, Joseph Hall; and a sister, Dorothy Kwiatkowski.
Funeral services are scheduled for Friday at 11:00AM in the Moosic Alliance Community Church, 608 Rocky Glen Road in Moosic, to be conducted by Rev. Doug Jensen. Interment will follow at Marcy Cemetery in Duryea. Relatives and friends may pay their respects on Thursday between 5-8:00PM in the Thomas P. Kearney Funeral Home, Inc., 517 North Main Street, Old Forge.
