Irene Naslanic, age 91, of Old Forge, passed away Tuesday at Mountain View Care Center in Scranton. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 58 years, Stanley Naslanic, on November 6, 2000.
Born in West Scranton on September 3, 1922, daughter of the late Samuel and Josephine Bucholski Ameika, Irene was a graduate of the former Scranton Technical High School, Class of 1942. Upon raising her two children, she worked in the local garment industry. A member of the ILGWU, she retired from Hy-grade Pants Factory in Taylor where her husband was a co-owner. Of Roman Catholic faith, she was a faithful member of the former St. Michael’s Roman Catholic Church in Old Forge. She enjoyed watching movies, her favorite pastime was crossword puzzles, and she adored her daughter’s bird, Annie. A loving mother and grandmother, Irene will be dearly missed.
Her family wishes to express their gratitude to the entire staff of Mountain View Care Center for the care and compassion given to them throughout Irene’s stay.
She is survived by her daughter, Linda Lockart, with whom she resided; her son, Don Naslanic and wife Susan of Lancaster; her two adoring grandsons, David Naslanic and wife Jae and Matthew Naslanic; and many nieces and nephews.
Brothers, Edward and Joseph Ameika; sisters, Wanda Katchur, Henrietta Zurvanski and Helen Klosek; and her son-in-law, Warren Lockhart, also preceded her in death.
A Mass of Christian Burial is scheduled for Saturday at 10:00AM in St. Lawrence O’Toole Church, 620 South Main Street in Old Forge, to be celebrated by Rev. August A. Ricciardi, Pastor. Interment will follow at St. Peter and Paul Parish Cemetery in West Scranton. Relatives and friends may pay their respects on Friday between 5-8:00PM at the Thomas P. Kearney Funeral Home, Inc., 517 North Main Street, Old Forge.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Irene’s name to the American Cancer Society, 712 South Keyser Avenue, Taylor, 18517.
