Florence F. Thomas, 88, a longtime resident of the Plot Section of Green Ridge, died Saturday morning at Green Ridge Health Care Center. Her husband of 52 years was the late William D. Thomas, who died February 15, 1997.

Born November 13, 1925 in Auckland, New Zealand, she was the daughter of the late Joseph Thomas and Willamina Fletcher Parsons. A graduate of New Zealand schools, she was employed as a waitress by numerous restaraunts in the Scranton area. Florence was a former member of the Puritan Congregational Church of Christ, Scranton.

Florence’s life was her family. Her home was the gathering place for breakfast on Sundays, and she was an excellent cook and baker. Surrounding herself with family while she cooked them all meals was her delight, even into her mid 80’s. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

The family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of the Green Ridge Health Care Center for the care and compassion shown to Florence throughout her stay, especially Ann Stone.

Surviving are her children, Harry Thomas, Lake Winola; William Thomas, Scranton; Janice Leach, Scranton; and Diane Mason, and husband, Jack, Blakely; sisters, Vera Jernigan, Texas; Rene Matthews, New Zealand; 12 Grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren; 8 great great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews

She was preceded in death by a son, Brian Thomas on December 20, 1959; a grandson, Leon Michael Lisowski, Jr., in 1984; a brother, Donald Parsons; and sisters, Bessie Taylor and Enid Parsons.

Funeral services will be Tuesday at 11 AM in the Kevin K. Kearney Funeral Home, Inc., 125 N. Main Ave., Scranton, to be conducted by the Rev. Arthur Davis. Interment, Valley View Memorial Park, Montdale.

Relatives and friends may pay their respects on Tuesday from 10 AM until the time of service.
