Mark C. Kempf, age 52, of the Green Ridge section of Scranton, died Thursday evening at the VNA Hospice Inpatient Unit of Geisinger Community Medical Center after a courageous battle with cancer. He is survived by his loving wife of 12 years and best friend, Melissa Winebrake Kempf.
Born in New York City, New York, on November 23, 1961, son of Walter and Joan Rode Kempf of Edgewater, NJ. Mark was a United States Army Veteran, having earned both the Army Service and Overseas Ribbons. After working at the former Globe Store, Haddon Craftsman, and Giant Food Stores, he worked as a journeyman meat cutter for the past twelve years.
He loved music concerts, comic books, video games and movies. He had a memorable sense of humor and excelled at making people laugh. A unique soul and kind sprit, Mark was a loving husband, son, brother, uncle, friend and coworker who passed away peacefully with his wife by his side.
He is also survived by brothers, Paul Kempf, Edgewater, NJ, Peter Kempf, Manahawkin, New Jersey; sisters, Mary Harris of Taylor , Karen Engle of Scranton, Tina Kempf, Pallisades Park, NJ; his foster family, Rick and Chris Crossley of Phillipsburg; many nieces and nephews; and his longtime cat, Sunny.
His family wishes to thank the entire staff of the VNA Hospice Unit for the amazing care given to Mark during his stay.
Also preceding him in death were brothers, Walter and Andrew Kempf.
A celebration of Mark’s life is scheduled for Sunday, June 29th, from 4-9:00PM @ Mickey Gannon’s, 1925 Sanderson Avenue in Scranton, 18509.
