Betty Fenton, age 82, a resident of Riverside Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Taylor and formerly of East Parker Street and Boulevard Avenue in Scranton, passed away early Thursday morning. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 61 years, Ira J. Fenton, on January 25, 2013. Born in Scranton, daughter of the late Theodore and Marion Hill Evans, Betty was educated in Scranton Schools. She was the former owner and operator of Convenient Food Mart #3006 in Scranton, before opening Fenton Submarine Shop in Scranton and Old Forge with her son, Wayne R. Fenton. A former member of the Eastern Star, she was also a member of the Church of the Good Shepherd in Scranton. A loving woman, she will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
She is survived by her sons, Wayne Fenton and companion Daniel Campion, Gary Fenton and wife Jennifer and John Fenton, all of Scranton; brothers, Teddy Evans of Lake Winola, Billy Evans of Justus, Donny Evans of Scranton, Willard Evans of Throop, Eddie Evans and Jimmy Evans, both of Scranton; three grandchildren; one great-grandson; many nieces and nephews, especially Sheila Evans-Macedonia of Throop; and a dear friend, Katherine Sury of Scranton.
A son, Bruce William Fenton; and a sister Marion Beavers, also preceded her in death.
His family would like to express their gratitude to Dr. Darlene Dunay as well as the staff of Riverside Nursing Center for all of their care and compassion.
Funeral services, to be conducted by Rev. Joseph Pititto, are scheduled for Monday at 9:00AM in the Thomas P. Kearney Funeral Home, Inc., 517 North Main Street, Old Forge. Interment will follow in Forest Hill Cemetery in Dunmore.
Relatives and friends may pay their respects on Sunday between 4-8:00PM at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Betty’s name to the Church of the Good Shepherd, 1780 North Washington Avenue, Scranton, 18509.
