Obituaries

Gloria C. Giles, age 91, a six-year resident of Wesley Village in Pittston, passed away Wednesday evening. She was preceded in death on August 26, 2012, by her beloved husband of 70 years, William D. Giles. Born in Duryea on September 11, 1922, daughter of the late William and Gladys Evans Felts, Gloria was a graduate of the former Duryea High School, Class of 1941. Prior to her retirement, she worked for Brooks Manufacturing and Sweetheart Candy Company. A devoted member of the Brick United Methodist Church in Duryea, she was also a member of the United Methodist Women.
She is survived by her son, Rev. Jerry Giles, Pastor of Grace Brethren Church, and wife Patricia of Long Beach, California; her sister, Beverly Mack and husband Robert of Duryea; her two grandchildren, Jennifer Chheang and husband Sophon, and Jeffrey Giles and wife Beth; and her four great-grandchildren, Zion and Soryia Chheang, Ruby and Fiona Giles.
Also preceding her in death was a son, William D. Giles, Jr.; a brother, William Felts; and sisters, Zelphia Carter and Alice Titus.
Her son would like to thank the entire staff of Wesley Village for the tremendous care and love given to his mother during her stay with them.
Funeral services are scheduled for Thursday, January 9th, 2014, at 1:00PM in the Brick United Methodist Church, 935 Foote Avenue in Duryea, to be conducted by her son. Interment will follow at the Marcy Cemetery.
Relatives and friends may pay their respects from noon until services at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Gloria’s name to Brick U.M. Church, 935 Foote Ave., Duryea, 18642.
