John A. Raynak, age 91, a lifelong Old Forge resident, died Sunday at Lapeer County Medical Care Facility in Lapeer, Michigan. His wife is Mae Scotch Raynak.
Born on July 22, 1914 in Old Forge, he was the son of the late Andrew and Mary Mihok Raynak.
He was educated in the Old Forge schools. He was a Navy veteran of WWII and served on the USS Massachusetts in numerous battles including Iwa Jima, Okinawa, Battle of Casablanca, Battle of Coral Sea, and the Battle of Truk Lagoon. Prior to retirement, he was a coal miner and also was employed in constuction by Capital Roofing & Builders, Old Forge. He was a member of St. Mary’s of the Assumption Roman Catholic Church, Old Forge.
Also surviving are six daughters,
Doreen Raynak and her husband Reed LeDuc, Mary Ann Alberry, Karen Zrudlo, Cheryl Raynak and her son Jesse, Gail Raynak and Kristine Andrews, three sons, John Raynak, Jr., Joseph Raynak, and Bill Raynak and his two sons Weston and Colton, two sisters, Mary Koval, and Helen Kneiss, two brothers, Michael Raynak, and Stephen Raynak. nieces and nephews
He was preceded in death by three brothers Joseph P., Andrew, and George Raynak.

A mass of christian burial will be Saturday at 9:30 A.M. in St. Mary’s of the Assumption Roman Catholic Church, corner of West Grace & Lawrence Sts., Old Forge, by Rev. Stanley J. Kurash. Interment will be at Holy Cross Cemetery in Old Forge.
Friends may call Saturday at the church 9:00 A.M. until mass time.
Arrangements are under the care of the Thomas P. Kearney Funeral Home, 517 N. Main Street, Old Forge.
