Obituaries

Dorothy S. Acker, age 67, a lifelong resident of Scranton, died Thursday under the care of VNA Hospice Inpatient Unit at Geisinger Community Medical Center. Born on June 4, 1946, daughter of the late Edward J. and Sophie Belchik Josephite, Dorothy was a graduate of the former Scranton Technical High School. She previously worked as a programs administrator for Adams Manor and in customer service for Turkey Hill Convenience Marts. A woman guided by strong Roman Catholic faith and deeply connected to her beliefs, she was a member of St. Ann’s Basilica Parish. A proud and longstanding member of Alcoholics Anonymous, Dorothy’s favorite pastime was traveling – wherever, whenever. Of a deep spritual nature, Dorothy was a loving woman who will be dearly missed.
She is survived by her beloved son, Daniel Kathalynas of Norfolk, Virginia; her sister, Eleanor Raymer of Taylor; and nephews, Edward and Richard Raymer, Jr.
Her son would like to thank both the staff of The Jewish Home of Eastern Pennsylvania as well as Dr. Kenneth Sebastianelli for all their collective care and support throughout Dorothy’s illness.
A Mass of Christian Burial is scheduled for Tuesday at 10:00AM in St. Ann’s Basilica, West Scranton. Interment will follow at the Cathedral Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Dorothy’s name to St. Ann’s Parish, 1250 St. Ann Street, Scranton, 18504.
