Shirley Ann Habeeb, age 81, of South Abington Twp., died early Thursday morning under the care of Hospice of the Sacred Heart and Hospice Community Care in Dunmore. She is survived by her beloved husband, Robert Habeeb, Sr. The couple celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary on May 17th. Born in Scranton on March 16, 1932, daughter of the late Paul and Amelia Lindner Pfurr, Shirley graduated from the former Scranton Central High School, Class of 1950, before earning her degree from the Lackawanna Business College. Prior to raising her family, she worked in administration for the International Salt Company in Clarks Summit. A passionate singer and lover of music, Shirley was a member of the Schuberts Choir of Scranton. She was a devoted member of the Hickory Street Presbyterian Church as well the the Ladies’ Auxilliary of the Chinchilla Hose Company. Shirley was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, relative and friend who will be forever remembered for her extraordinary sense of humor. She will be dearly missed.
She is also survived by her five children, Robert Habeeb, Jr., of Chicago, Illinois, Timothy Habeeb and wife Diane, Jody Ferdyn and husband Allan, John Habeeb and wife Jenifer and Paulette Habeeb-Farry, all of Clarks Summit; nine grandchildren, R.J., Marlo, Hailey, Timmy, Danny, John Paul and Katie Habeeb, Mickey and Amelia Farry; and many nieces and nephews.
A brother, Paul Pfurr, also preceded her in death.
Her family would like to express their gratitude to the staffs of both Celtic Health Care and Hospice of the Sacred Heart; Dr. Thomas Minora; and to all of Shirley’s devoted caregivers for all of their love and support during her illness.
Funeral services are scheduled for Monday at 10:00AM in the Hickory Street Presbyterian Church, 427 Hickory Street in Scranton, to be conducted by Rev. Stuart Thomas Wilson, Pastor. Interment will follow at Sacred Heart Cemetery in West Scranton.
Relatives and friends may pay their respects on Sunday from 2-5:00PM at the Kearney Funeral Home, Inc., 125 North Main Avenue in West Scranton.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Shirley’s name to her church, Hickory Street Presbyterian, 427 Hickory Street, Scranton, 18505.
