Gerald (Jerry) M. Moran, age 65, of Nicholson, died Sunday under the care of Commonwealth Hospice of NEPA at Regional Hospital in Scranton. He is survived by his loving wife, Margaret O’Connor Moran. Married on November 17, 1978, the couple were to celebrate their 35th wedding anniversary next month. Born on Christmas Eve, 1947, son of the late John and Geraldine Baggott Moran, Jerry graduated from West Scranton High School, Class of 1965, before earning his degree from Johnson College. He served over five years in the Army before being honorably discharged on December 6, 1972. Working as a machinist for Acker Drill in Chinchilla, he retired after 42 years of service. An avid outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing and hunting, he was a member of the Blue Star Hunting Club. His favorite pastime was spending time at his Lake Kewanee cabin. A guitar-playing musician, he always enjoyed watching “Old Friends” band. A loving, humble and family-oriented man, he will be forever missed by both his family and friends alike.
He is survived by his children, daughter, Nancy Moran of Philadelphia, and son, Mark Moran and wife Cherri of Elkton, Maryland; brothers, Joseph Moran of Factoryville and Paul Moran and wife Mary of Fleetville; sister, Ann Marie Kozlansky of Scott Twp.; three grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was also preceded in death by a brother, John Moran.
His family would like to thank Dr. Joseph J. DelSerra for years of his excellent care.
Funeral services are scheduled to begin on Thursday at 8:45AM from the Kearney Funeral Home, Inc., 125 North Main Avenue, Scranton, with a 9:30AM Mass of Christian Burial in Holy Rosary Church at Mary, Mother of God Parish, 316 William Street in Scranton, to be celebrated by Rev. Cyril D. Edwards, Pastor. Interment will follow in Chase Cemetery in Fleetville.
Relatives and friends may pay their respects on Wednesday from 5-7:00PM at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Jerry’s name to the American Cancer Society, 712 South Keyser Avenue, Taylor, 18517.
