Margaret “Peg” Royce, 95, formerly of Taylor and West Scranton, passed away Saturday in Lackawanna Health and Rehabilitation Center where she was a resident. Her husband of 44 years was the late Arthur “Red” Royce, who died November 21, 1980.
Born May 19, 1917, she was the daughter of the late Lyshon and Catherine Bray Griffiths. Educated in Blakely schools, she was employed as a presser for Somark Glove Factory in Dunmore prior to her retirement. Peg was very active in the community and was awarded the Outstanding Volunteer Award and her 25 year pin by the American Heart Association. She was also a Committee Woman for the Democratic Party in West Scranton for over 30 years, headed the Hyde Park Centennial Committee, and was a member of the Taylor Primitive Methodist Church.
The family wishes to extend a special thank you to the nurses and staff of the Lackawanna Health and Rehabilitation Center D-1 Ward and of Hospice of the Sacred Heart for the wonderful care and compassion shown to Peg during her stay.
Surviving are:
Four daughters: Dorothy Bucher, and husband, Jon, Greeley Ruth Harris, Dunmore Mae Frankowski, and husband, Gerard, Scranton Faye Turley, Scranton
23 grandchildren; Numerous great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, nieces, and
nephews.
She was preceded in death by a son, Walford Harold Royce, February 22, 1992; two grandsons, Mark Telesk and Justin Royce Turley, a brother, Robert Rech, and three sisters, Elizabeth Seymour, Mildred Newton, and Vivian Krah.
The funeral service is scheduled for Thursday at 10 AM in the Kearney Funeral Home, Inc., 125 N. Main Ave., Scranton , with Rev. Arthur Davis, officiating. Interment to follow in Union Cemetery, Blakely.
Relative and friends may pay their respects on Wednesday from 5 to 8 PM in the funeral home.
