James Considine Barrett, Sr., a lifelong resident of West Scranton, died Saturday afternoon in the Hospice Community Care Inpatient Unit after an illness. His wife was the former Ann O’Malley who died on April 3, 1998.
Born in Scranton, he was the son of the late James F. and Catherine McGowan Considine. He attended Scranton Public Schools and was a devoted member of St. Patrick’s Church, West Scranton. Prior to his retirement in 1982 he was employed by the City of Scranton Fire Department earning the rank of District Chief. He was a United States Army veteran serving honorably during World War II. During his service he earned the Phillipines Liberation, Victory and Asia Pacific Theater Services medals.
Surviving are a son James F. Barrett, Jr. and his wife Mariellen of West Scranton; a daughter Kathleen Barrett of Alexandria, Va.; two step grandchildren Marirose and Kenneth; nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a brother Joseph in 1947 and a sister Katherine in 1949.
Anyone attending the Mass is asked to go directly to the church.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday at 10am in St. Patrick’s Church, 1403 Jackson St. Scranton.
Friends may call Tuesday from 4-7pm in the Kearney Funeral Home, Inc. 125 N. Main Ave. Scranton.
Interment with Military and Scranton Fire Department Honors in Cathedral Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Hospice Community Care Inpatient Unit, 100 Williams St. Dunmore, 18509.
