Joseph Robert Kondrat, age 83, a resident of the Gino J. Merli Veterans’ Center, passed away Thursday at the Moses Taylor Hospital in Scranton. He is survived by his wife , Sara Kulp Kondrat. Born on June 7, 1929, in Forest City, son of the late Peter and Mary Kondrat, Joseph was a graduate of Forest City School. An Army Veteran, he was a member of the Milford American Veterans. Prior to his retirement, he was a motor vehicle examiner for the State of New Jersey. An outdoorsman, he was a member of several mushroom clubs and he was an avid fisherman and camper. A loving husband, father, brother and grandfather who enjoyed polka with his beloved wife, he’ll be forever remembered for his story telling.
He is survived by his daughter, Maryann Unger and husband Ronald of Altoona; his son, Joseph Kondrat; five grandchildren, Christin Pounds, Nicole Welch, Walter Findeis, Jr., Lilly kondrat and Cole Kondrat; thirteen great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild.
Also preceding in death was a granddaughter, Jennifer Wilson.
His family would like to offer their appreciation to the staffs of both the Gino Merli Veterans’ Center and Moses Taylor Hospital for their extraordinary care.
Private arrangements are under the care of the Kearney Funeral Home, Inc., 125 North Main Avenue, Scranton.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Joseph’s name to Gino Merli Veterans’ Center, 401 Penn Avenue, Scranton, 18503.
