Margaret Jean Moran Rhue, died Friday evening, August 17th, at home. She was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, George M. Rhue, on October 3, 2011.
Born on June 8, 1925, the second daughter of the late Thomas L. and Elizabeth Taylor Moran, she was a member of the first graduating class of West Scranton High School in 1943 before earning her Bachelors of Arts from Marywood College in 1947 winning the Medal of Excellence for Art.
An active member of the Class of 1943 renunion committee for many years, she was also a charter member of the Colonial Dames of the 17th Century. She was a teacher in both Hurlock, Maryland, and for the Scranton School District for many years.
She is survived by her seven children, Nancy Harvey and husband William of Scranton, Thomas Rhue and wife Judy of Moscow, Timothy Rhue and wife Rosemary of Adams, New York, Ellen Hultz and husband Joseph of Pittsburgh, Elizabeth Kuhns and husband Charles, of Yorktown, Indiana, Daniel Rhue and wife Sarah of Scranton, and Marnie Rhue Long, also her primary caregiver, of Scranton; two sisters, Elizabeth Vournakes of Chambersburg, and Sally Kearney of Scranton; twenty grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Also preceding her in death was a son, Michael Rhue; a daughter, Mary Rhue; a brother, Thomas C. Moran; and a sister, Joanie O’Boyle.
Blessing services will be conducted on Wednesday at 10:00AM in the Chapel at Cathedral Cemetery, West Scranton, with interment to follow. Relatives and friends may pay their respects on Tuesday between 4-8:00PM at the Kearney Funeral Home, Inc., 125 North Main Avenue, Scranton.
The family would like to acknowledge the staff of Commonwealth Hospice of NEPA for their exceptional care and ask that in lieu of flowers memorial contributions in Jean’s name be made to NEPA Hospice at 946 Jefferson Avenue in Scranton, 18510.
