William M. King, Jr. passed away peacefully on August 1, 2012 at Jersey Shore University Medical Center surrounded by his family after a short illness.
Born in Scranton, Pennsylvania, on January 19, 1929, he was predeceased by his parents William M. King Sr. and Mary McNamee King, along with brothers John, Robert, infant brother Joseph and sister Mary Krupski.
Bill is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Edith (nee Callahan), son William M. King III and his wife Pamela, grandchildren Katherine Eileen King and William M. King IV of Wall. He is also survived by his brother James King of Scranton and many sister–in-laws, brother-in-laws, nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was a communicant at Holy Innocents Parish in Neptune.
He attended Nativity School and graduated from Central High School in Scranton. Bill proudly served his country in the United States Army as a paratrooper in the 11th Airborne Division and the 675th Field Artillery with the Occupation Forces in Japan during World War II. Following his service he attended the University of Scranton and graduated with a degree in business from Rutgers University. Bill later received his Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Newark College of Engineering. He completed his boards and was certified as a Licensed New Jersey Professional Engineer.
Bill worked for the Union Carbide-Bakelite in their plastics division as a Mechanical Engineer for 38 years. He worked in Bound Brook, New Jersey as well as in Wayne, Newark, and Ottawa, Illinois. He later worked as Director of Maintenance for Somerset County College and Troast Industries.
Bill enjoyed spending time with his family and attending his grandchildren’s school, church and sporting events. He took up golf and passed the love of the game onto his son. Bill and Edith were at as many of his tournaments as possible. Bill even served as the golf coach at Rutgers University in 1978 for one tournament and brought home the first Eastern Eight trophy to the school. He was a founding trustee on the David Bender Educational Trust at Rutgers. He lived his faith and will be remembered as a man who did it by the book and will be cherished as a blessing we shared as a good son and brother, loving husband, father, father-in-law, grandfather, uncle and friend.
The funeral will be Monday at 8:45 A.M. from the Thomas P. Kearney Funeral Home, Inc. 517 North Main Street, Old Forge with Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 9:30 AM in St. John Neumann Parish- Nativity of Our Lord Church, 633 Orchard Avenue. Entombment will follow in Cathedral Cemetery Mausoleum. Friends and family may call at the funeral home on Sunday from 3-6 P.M.
