Louis W. Weltz, age 92, of Taylor, passed away Tuesday morning at the VA Medical Center in Wilkes-Barre. His wife, the former Martina (Myrtle) Kwak, died September 15, 1982.
Born in Old Forge on July 3, 1920, son of the late Michael and Agatha Lew Weltz, he was educated in Old Forge Schools and was a member of the former St. Michael’s Church in Old Forge. A WWII Army Veteran, he received the bronze star medal, the good conduct medal, the Philippines Liberation Medal with 1 bronze star, the Asiatic-Pacific Theater Service Medal with two Bronze Stars and the Victory Medal. Prior to his retirement, he was employed by the former Lackawanna Pants. The family would like to extend a sincere thank you to his aid, Tina Palochko, for all of her loving care.
He is survived by his son, Louis Weltz, Jr. of Taylor; his two sisters, Helen O’Dell and
Sophie Squirlock and husband Servie, all of Old Forge; three grandchildren, Michelle Leeson, Geraldine Weltz and Jeanette Gallagher; five great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by an infant son Michael, brothers Stanley and Joseph, and sisters Victoria Kwak and Ann Maisano.
Bllessing services will be conducted on Saturday at 11:00AM at the Thomas P. Kearney Funeral Home, Inc., 517 North Main Street, Old Forge. Interment will follow in the Holy Cross Cemetery. Friends and relatives may pay their respects on Friday between 6-8:00PM. Military services will be conducted by the AMVETS Honor Guard Post 189, Greater Pittston.
