John “Jack” W. Wylam, age 86, a longtime resident of Taylor, passed away Monday morning under the care of Northeast Hospice at Regional Hospital in Scranton. His wife, the former Mary Smallacombe, preceded him in death on July 17, 2003. Born in Old Forge on November 23, 1924, son of the late John and Lillian Williams Wylam, Jack was educated in Old Forge Schools and prior to retirement, he worked for Garlet Manufacturing.
Of Roman Catholic faith, he was a member of St. Ann’s Basilica, Scranton.
He is survived by his children, his four sons, John Wylam and wife Martha of Bellevue, NE, Henry Wylam and wife Christine of Hanover Twp., Paul Wylam and wife Gail of South Plainfield, NJ, and James Wylam and wife Janice of Duryea; and two daughters, Kate Davis and husband Ken of Ackworth, GA, and Mary Ann Wylam of New York, NY; a brother, Donald Wylam of Taylor; 18 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
Also preceding him in death was a son, Patrick Paul Wylam; sisters, Lilly Mae Williams, Leah Pryor, Elizabeth Evans, Nancy DiSimone and infant, Elizabeth Wylam; and brothers, Evan, Ben, Henry and Sabbath Wylam.
Private graveside services to be conducted by Rev. Francis Landry, C.P., Pastor of St. Ann’s Basilica Parish, will be held on Tueday in the Holy Cross Cemetery, Old Forge, with interment to follow.
His family would like to express their gratitude to the doctors and staff of Regional Hospital and Northeast Hospice and especially to Dr. Luigi Spagnolini for his years of care.
