Ann Marie (Rinkus) Dougherty, age 81, of Old Forge, passed away peacefully Thursday morning at home. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 52 years, John “Jack” Dougherty on January 4, 2015.
Born in Scranton on September 5, 1941, daughter of the late Stanley I. and Ann (Mishakas) Rinkus, Ann Marie was a graduate of the former Scranton Technical High School.
Some of Ann Marie’s greatest qualities regarded her innate ability to care for her loved ones. She raised four amazing daughters of whom she was so proud.
She took great pride in her yard and loved yard work; she enjoyed cleaning, always keeping an immaculate home; and from her early years working as a seamstress, she always loved to sew. A lifelong animal lover, she’ll certainly be missed by her pup, “Lacey”.
Ann Marie always enjoyed having a good time and certainly loved to dance. She loved being with her family, especially her children, grandchildren who all adored their “grammy” and her great grandchildren who loved their “GG.”
She leaves behind an incredible legacy – a legacy of love – to three generations.
Of Roman Catholic faith, she faithfully attended Saint Ann’s Basilica.
She is survived by her loving family including four daughters, Donna Biglin of Moscow, Karen DiPipi and husband David of Penn Lake, Sharon Matylewicz and husband Mark of Old Forge and Jacqueline Cusano and husband Dr. Matthew of SC; seven grandchildren, Colin Biglin and wife Jennifer, Kelsi Bidwell and husband William, Maria Cronauer and husband Kevin, Alesia Matylewicz, Derrick Cusano and fiance Anna, Ashley and Sean Cusano; five great grandchildren with one more on the way; sisters, Florence McCauley and husband Paul of Scranton, Carol Zawada of Scranton, and Vicky Metschulat and husband Arthur of Moscow; and many nieces and nephews. A son-in-law, Thomas Biglin, also preceded her in death.
A Mass of Christian Burial is scheduled for Wednesday at 11:00 AM at Saint Ann’s Basilica, West Scranton, with burial to follow at Cathedral Cemetery. Family and friends may pay their respects on Wednesday at the church from 10:00 AM until Mass.
Those wishing to attend the funeral are asked to go directly to church.
